The club started November 9, 1982 by some men, who had learned how to build a Ship in Bottle (SIB) at the Maritime Historical Museum in Stockholm. They had attended some courses, where Björn Thunberg was the leader.

They did not want to split up in various directions, but wanted to meet a place off the museum. At first the club had no name, but after voting they chose the name ”Flaskskepparna”. Björn Thunberg became the first chairman, now

Honorary Chairman. They decided to meet the first Thursday every month except January, July and August. The purpose of the club was to meet for a cup of coffee, talk about SIB and other ships and also build SIB.

The club has now grown to about 40 members and Kaj Westergren is now the chairman. To be a new member of the club one has to show a selfmade SIB. New members come mostly from the courses but also other builder of SIB can join the club. The club is now also member of the European Association of Ships in Bottles.
